Here I am in a little park down the street from Susan B. Anthony's house in Rochester. In case you don't remember your U.S. History, Susan B. Anthony was the famous women's suffragist of the nineteenth century. She never married and spent her whole life fighting for the rights of black people as well as of all women. This particular monument shows Susan with her long time friend Frederick Douglass who was a black rights activist and newspaper publisher.
Here is Susan's house. It was just recently acquired by the Historical Society and is currently under restoration. But, it was still a fascinating place to visit nonetheless. Susan was arrested in the house for voting in an election--which was against the law at the time.
Here I am inside the house in a little parlor upstairs. This is one of the rooms that has been restored already and is very nice.
This dress is located in Susan's bedroom. It was the famous black silk dress that she always wore. The black silk was sent to her by the LDS Women from Utah after she had visited there. Utah was a favorite state of hers because it gave women the right to vote very early on and the LDS women were quite taken with Susan. I thought it very appropriate that she should receive a gift like this from the LDS women.
