This is the beautiful mansion of George Eastmen located in Rochester. George was the founder of the Kodak Photographic Company. He was rather an eccentric bachelor with a taste for odd things, but he was very intelligent and good a businessman. He was also very philanthropic and did much good in the Rochester area.
Here I am standing in front of the marvelous staircase inside the house. It goes up two more floors from this point. The house is absolutely huge and it has been made even larger by the museum of photography that has been added on the back which includes a theater and underground archives.
Here is one of the eccentric things that Mr. Eastman decorated his house with. He liked to go on Safari's in Africa and shoot wild animals there. I told you he was an eccentric bachelor. Imagine decorating your house with animal hooves!
This room was where Mr. Eastman ate his breakfast every morning. The elephant head seen here is a replica of the original which has completely rotted away. I believe the tusk you can see in the middle of the picture in front of the door there is from the original head. There is also a huge organ in the corner of the room which he hired an organist to play for him while he ate.
