Playing in the Snow

The month of January came in with more snow! It is falling really heavily in the above picture. York is not used to snow and was a bit of a disaster, really. It's amazing how people adjust to their usual weather and when something like snow comes along they don't know what to do with it except panic, huddle down in their houses, and refuse to go outside! I did, however, see one snow plow working away in York, so that was helpful! The main roads in town and the roads the busses run on got priority for snow removal. The rest of the roads did not and drivers/pedestrians just had to deal with it. Walking around on the footpaths was like walking on the beach--lots of work and you never got anywhere!

This is Saxon Place where I live. This was how most of the roads were for a couple of weeks. Nice!
The River Ouse is frozen in this picture and there is a little bit of sun for a spell. It's lovely, all this snow.
Debbie and I went to a park close to our flat to play in the snow for a while. We threw snowballs, made snow angels, and slid down whatever hills we could find on our bottoms. Debbie didn't think to wear her waterproof trousers (they just don't get enough snow here for that sort of thought to be natural), so she's lying back on the tail of her coat.
This snow was very dry and difficult to pack into any decent sized snowballs, so we had to settle for a little snowman sitting on a bench. He's cute, isn't he? Unfortunately, someone destroyed him at some point in the day since he wasn't there when we drove by Sunday morning on our way to church. Oh well, he was cute while he lasted.
Debbie and I with our little creation in between. Fun times! The snow has since melted and everyone has heaved massive 'sighs' of relief. Rain is what these people are used to and they are happy to have it back again!
