The City of York holds lots of festivals throughout the year and one of my favorites is the Festival of Lights. One can walk around parts of town and see the unique light displays that people have made. I took a few pictures of some of the things that could be photographed. Unfortunately, some exhibits were too hard to get a good picture. The top one is a huge globe and the picture inside it changes to music and other dialogue. The green eye was a bit eerie and made me think of the Red Eye of Sauron in the Lord of the Rings.
This next one is trying to imitate a stained glass window. It isn't a real window, however, so don't be fooled, it's just light projected onto a blank sheet. Pretty amazing technology, though, because you'd swear you were looking at a real window in a church somewhere.
And then, the light show on the front of the Minster. The festival organizers usually pick some kind of theme and this year it was roses. So there was a dialogue and some music playing in the background as the light display changed and it all had something to do with roses. I really liked the red one in the picture below and the video clip below that of the flowers falling.
Anyway, just a little taste of some of the cultural things that go on around here. I've always been attracted to light, so no surprises that I would enjoy coming to things like this!
